“Really great food here. Went for lunch on a Saturday and was not disappointed. Ingredients were fresh and dishes were delicious. We had four starters, two mains and two desserts between 2 and were stuffed by the end of it. Good portions, good service, will definitely return.”

“A beautiful meal from start to finish. The staff were courteous from the moment we walked in through the door and the food was just delicious. It’s no wonder it has an excellent reputation as the food is purely wholesome but incredibly flavoursome and tasty. Alongside a great wine menu and cocktails too, it’s worth a trip out of the centre for, if you’re visiting London!”

“Traditional, perfectly executed food. Good choice of dishes plus a specials board. What is really worth mentioning, is it was extremely good value. I felt the customer is respected, food that does not cut corners, quality ingredients, cooked with care and the plating was assured. Sometimes that is exactly what you want but rarely find. I highly recommend booking at jumping into a taxi for a perfect dinner in a lovely brasserie.”

For nearly two decades, the two 'garçons' themselves—Chef Robert Reid, a graduate of the formidable kitchens of Marco Pierre White, and the inimitable host Jean-Christophe Slowik, a veteran of top-tier Parisian and Roux-brother establishments—have provided Crouch End with a perfect slice of Parisian bistro culture. It’s a place of comforting rediscovery, not culinary experiment. The menu is a reassuring roster of the greats, executed with a profound consistency that builds unshakeable loyalty. This isn't a place for trends; it's for the time-honoured classics. The steak tartare is perfectly seasoned, the duck confit achieves that textbook ideal of crisp skin and melting meat, and the escargots arrive swimming in just the right amount of garlic and parsley butter. It’s food that soothes the soul. The atmosphere is always exactly as it should be: the room is tight, the energy is high, and the service is briskly professional in that uniquely Gallic way that prioritises efficiency over fuss. Booking well in advance is essential. Now, a crucial piece of advice: the Tarte Tatin for two must be ordered when you book your table. It is a non-negotiable rite of passage. Arriving as a dark, shimmering, deeply caramelised masterpiece, it is arguably the best in London and worth the visit alone. The Baba au Rhum is also a faultless, spirit-soaked conclusion. “Make sure you book before you go! We booked and came in a hot summers day. suffice to say, there is no air conditioning and they had a few oscillating fans but was still suffocating hot inside… Despite that, the food we got was all so delicious. It felt like a very family owned restaurant where the chef cares about each individual dish served. All but one was absolutely delicious… would still come again but not order that one let down. We didn’t quite like the confit ducks it felt dry, the skin had peeled off, and just tasted bland. the sauce was also sub par… not sure how this dish got served when everything else was 5/5. Highly recommended still !”
